08.20.2009 / Home Team of Omaha is counting down the clock to kick-off.
The Home Team of Omaha is counting down the clock to kick-off. Summer is over and the Mavericks are looking to make a splash around town.
These are exciting times around the Maverick athletic department – UNO students start in less than a week, and the fall football schedule kicks off sooner than you think! The Mavs are striving to become “Omaha’s Team” by making multiple community appearances, and connecting to the community with the Maverick Road Show. In fact, this week the Road Show kicked into high gear with an appearance by the coaching staff at Mckenna’s on Wednesday the 19th. Upcoming stops on the Maverick Road Show include the first annual Mav Fest on August 23rd - a free event for the whole family at Caniglia Field from 12:30-2:30 - and the final Road Show stop on Wednesday the 26th at DJ’s Dugout on 114th St in Omaha.
Mav Fest will be a great event with our student athletes and coaches participating in games and activities on the field. This will be a great chance to get autographs and meet some of the best athletes in Omaha. Following Mav Fest, the football team will have a public practice – so if football is your game, then stick around to watch.
The official Maverick Football season kicks off with our “Football Night in Nebraska” opening night. The game begins at 7:00 pm on Thursday August 27 against East Central Oklahoma. If you plan on attending be sure to stay for the fireworks show after the game – football and fireworks for $9 is the best deal in town! So if you’re sick of summer reruns of The Office, get out of the house and give your support to the Mavs - Omaha’s Team!
