12.14.2009 / Be My Guest... at the Holidays
The holidays are quickly approaching and many of you will be hosting out of town guests. With all the hustle and bustle that the holidays bring, you may find it difficult to devote all of your time to entertaining your house guests. Consider these thoughtful ways to make your overnight visitors feel like VIPs.
Create the Perfect Space.
Choose a quiet room that offers ample light, convenient bathroom access and a degree of privacy. Furnish with a queen-sized bed, an armchair and a vanity or full-length mirror.- Deliver Spa Treatment.
Keep essential toiletries and pampering products on hand, including shampoo, shaving cream, toothpaste, new toothbrushes and lotions. Add fun extras like nail polishes and facial masks, or knock their socks off with a luxurious guest robe and slippers. - Make Unpacking Easy.
Set up a foldable suitcase rack before visitors arrive. Dedicate shelf space and hangers for guest attire and install a coat hook on the wall. - Appeal to their Senses.
Scented candles, calming wall colors and dimmable lighting can create an inviting ambiance. Choose easily adjustable, dark-colored shades and add nightlights in the room, hallway and bathroom. - Make Downtime Enjoyable.
Provide entertaining activities, including playing cards, books and magazines, and add a reading lamp next to the bed or armchair. - Set the Mood for Sleep.
Place an alarm clock and a sleep mask on the nightstand. Offer to do a “wake-up knock” at their requested time. - Plan a Parting Gift.
From a sack of homemade cookies to a framed picture of you and your guests, a going-away gift lets visitors know how much you enjoyed their company.
Do you have any ideas for how to make your guests feel like VIPs? We would love to hear from you!
