10.14.2010 / The Longhorns are headed to Lincoln and the Huskers are ready. Posting by Greg Sharpe, The Voice of the Huskers.
October 16th. That is the date that all Husker fans have had circled since last December. That is the day the Texas Longhorns come to town. Forget the fact that Texas has lost two straight. Forget that the Horns are no longer ranked. This is a big game for the Cornhuskers.
NU got their swagger back last Thursday in Manhattan. The Big Red came up big in the 48-13 thumping of the Wildcats. The offensive line reestablished their push and Taylor Martinez resumed his push to be in the Heisman discussion. It’s been wildly fun to watch Martinez shred defenses. Last Thursday he posted the most rushing yards in a game for a Nebraska quarterback EVER!
The task will be more difficult this week. Texas has a terrific defense. That side of the ball hasn’t been the problem for the Longhorns. UT is extremely talented on defense and will make the Huskers earn every yard. Don’t expect this game to turn into a track meet.
The same can be said on the other side of the ball. Texas has struggled with sophomore quarterback Garrett Gilbert at the helm. Gilbert has been okay but the lack of a running attack would make it tough on any signal caller.
Texas is playing the no chance card this week and talking up that all the pressure is on Nebraska to protect their perfect season. This is where it gets scary. Texas has very athletic and talented players that have been hearing for two weeks how bad things are in Austin. UT will bring an attitude with them to Lincoln. But beating Texas has been a rallying cry for months here so I don’t think that will work.
I’m expecting a tight game, because the Texas defense is good, but I don’t see the Longhorns scoring many points. Look for the Huskers to win a close one that will keep your attention all afternoon.
The longhorns are coming to town- any game predications? Do you think the Huskers will pull out the win against the horns? Come on Huskers fans, post your comments NOW!
