10.28.2010 / Let the Battle for the North and Big 12 Conference Begin. Posting by Greg Sharpe, The Voice of the Huskers

It is only October but the Huskers face a must win game this week when the Missouri Tigers come calling. Missouri is the only undefeated team in the Big 12 after their huge win last Saturday versus Oklahoma.

It’s only October but the Huskers face a must win game this week when the Missouri Tigers come calling. Missouri is the only undefeated team in the Big 12 after their huge win last Saturday versus Oklahoma. 

The Tigers come into Lincoln a game ahead of the Huskers in the conference standings and if Nebraska wants to win the North they will need to beat the Tigers.

Let’s jump back to Saturday. What an amazing performance by redshirt freshman quarterback Taylor Martinez. To throw for over 300 yards and rush for over 100 yards is an incredible feat. Martinez was the reason that the Huskers were victorious in Stillwater.  

Don’t get caught up in the 41 points that the Cowboys put on the board. The Oklahoma State offense is as good as there is the Big 12. Stay focused on the second half of the game in which the Blackshirts shut down the Cowboys for most of the half.

Now back to this week. Missouri is lead by junior quarterback Blaine Gabbert. The former Nebraska commit was solid in the upset of number one Oklahoma last weekend. Gabbert is the star of the Tigers team but the reason that Mizzou is undefeated at this point is their defense. The black and gold have performed much better this season on that side of the ball than in the past and that is why they come into Lincoln ranked in the top ten. 

This will be a down and dirty game on Saturday where turnovers will be a big factor and it could be determined by the play of both teams’ quarterbacks. The winner of this one will be in the driver’s seat to win the north and play for a conference crown in December. Go Big Red!!
