05.27.2010 / Small Cap Equity Strategy Performing Well. Posting by Randall Greer, Tributary Capital Management, Managing Director Value Equities
Stocks in the Industrial and Financial sectors led the domestic stock market in the first quarter, which propelled the returns of value style strategies ahead of that for growth. Investors also increased their appetite for risk, which benefitted small capitalization stocks over large cap stocks.
This created a perfect market environment for the Tributary Capital Small Cap Value Strategy, which, assisted by strong stock selection, had strong returns in the first quarter. The Tributary Capital Large Cap Value Strategy held primarily large capitalization, high quality stocks, which lagged a bit in this quarter as investors reached for more risk. However, these same companies generate significant revenues from rapidly growing international markets, which should put the strategy in a strong competitive position over the next several years.
