11.04.2010 / The Huskers Control their own Destiny, but must Stop the Cyclones that Control theirs too. Posting by Greg Sharpe, The Voice of the Huskers
What a great win last week for the Nebraska Cornhuskers! It was arguably the best win in the Bo Pelini era. Missouri came in undefeated, ranked in the top ten and coming off a huge win over Oklahoma.
The first quarter was absolutely a thing of beauty for Big Red fans. The offense, defense and special teams were all firing and the result was a 24-0 15 minutes of football.
But that was last week and now that the Huskers control their own destiny, the charge for the rest of the season is to win out. That starts this Saturday at Iowa State, who by the way also controls their destiny. The Cyclones upset Nebraska last year in Lincoln thanks to eight turnovers by the Huskers.
ISU is coming off of a pair of wins over Texas and Kansas and has an experienced backfield with quarterback Austin Arnaud and running back Alexander Robinson. Both of those players missed last year’s game with injuries and both rank high in the Iowa State record books.
But this game comes down to Nebraska. The Huskers are the better team and just need to play sound football. Iowa State has had trouble defending the run and as we saw last week with Roy Helu the Huskers can run.
Iowa State will try to run the clock with their spread attack and shorten the game but as the odds makers have stated this should be a game that the Huskers control.
Go Big Red!
