09.10.2010 / Mystery solved with the QB position, now on to improving the defense. Posting by Greg Sharpe, The Voice of the Huskers.
The mystery surrounding the quarterbacks was cleared up last week as Husker Nation had a chance to see what Taylor Martinez could do on a football field. The reaction has been amazing. You would think that Taylor is ready to win the Heisman after his first game. He is a talented young man but he is going to make mistakes and Husker fans need to temper their excitement.
The first game was the expected blowout and the Big Red showed why they are a top ten team. But in the coaches eyes their were plenty of mistakes made and a lot to fix. The defense surrendered over 100 yards on the ground to Western Kentucky and that had Bo Pelini and the defensive staff shaking their heads. But you can bet on this staff shoring up that defense.
This weeks challenge is a bigger one than the opener. Idaho is coming off of a bowl season last year and they were victorious in their opener against North Dakota 45-0. The interesting story line with the Vandals is their quarterback Nathan Enderle. The senior quarterback is from North Platte and he will have a large cheering section at Memorial Stadium on Saturday. Enderle has put together an impressive career at Idaho. He ranks in the top ten in most categories in school history. He will provide a nice test for the Blackshirts this weekend.
The strength of the Vandals has been their offense. Defense has struggled. A year ago the Vandals surrendered over 36 points per game. Now they do return 10 starters on that side of the ball but this should be a unit that the Huskers can have some success against. This is a bigger challenge than last week but playing at home the Big Red should have control by early in the second half and push their record to 2-0.
Go Big Red!
After last week’s game do you think the Husker will still win the Big 12 North and/or the Big 12 Championship? Come on Huskers fans, let us know what you think.
