09.27.2010 / End of the Year Frugality
As the end of the year is typically a time for spending money, it can be hard to remember to save. Making sure you end the year on a frugal note can be easy and rewarding if you follow a few simple savings tips...
- Make lists for shopping: Whether its grocery shopping, holiday shopping or clothes shopping, make a list and stick to it. We spend most of our unprepared expenses on things that we didn’t plan to buy. Pass by the impulse purchases and save the money. Remember: If it’s not on your list, it shouldn’t be in your cart!
- Brown Bag It: Bring your lunch rather than purchasing it. Planning can be rough, but one of the best tips we ever got was to make a little extra for dinner and put it aside for lunch the next day.
- Check the Internet for deals: Sites like Groupon.com (http://www.groupon.com/) or http://www.coupons.com can help you find deals on everything from groceries to large purchases. If you’re a member of a store and have a card, check their websites too – stores often offer their cardholders special coupons online.
- Recycle Smartly: Don’t just throw away your old clothes or gently used children’s items. Many towns and cities have consignment shops or sales that will let you sell your old stuff for cash. While you won’t make the full purchase price back, it is a way to help you recoup some of your investment!
By looking for ways to either save yourself some cash or make some money back, you can end the year frugally!
