06.29.2011 / It is time for Railroad Days!
Do you have kids that like trains? Do you still get a thrill when you see a train pass by? Then you should make plans to go to Railroad Days this July!
On July 16 & 17th from 9 am to 5 pm, five Omaha-area railroad themed attractions will be showcasing influential railroaders from the Civil War to the present day. To join in the fun, you can buy a $15 family pass that allows admission (and transportation) between all five locations, including:
- Lauritzen Gardens – Home to Kenefick Park, which has two of the greatest locomotives to ever power the Union Pacific Railroad. Centennial No. 6900 is one of the largest and most powerful diesel-electric locomotives while Big Boy No. 4023 is one of the world’s largest steam engines. Both are a must-see for railroad enthusiasts!
- The Durham Museum – Making its home in the Omaha’s Old Union Station, the Durham Museum is home to a variety of train car exhibits that visitors can walk through to learn about the golden age of railroading.
- RailsWest Railroad Museum – You can experience real railcars and locomotives in their beautifully restored Depot, along with an extensive HO-scale model train display.
- Union Pacific Railroad Museum – The Union Pacific Railroad museum is one of the oldest corporate museums in the country and will take your family through the history of railroads from the viewpoint of Union Pacific.
- The General Dodge House – General Grenville M. Dodge was the chief engineer in building the Transcontinental Railroad and his historically restored house will give you a sense of what it was like to live during this exciting time.
Buses run continuously to each location from 9AM to 5PM with stops at each location every 15 to 30 minutes. The wristband you receive with your family pass provides entry to all participating venues for both days of the event and includes transportation. All aboard for fun!
