06.13.2011 / Staycation- Part II
So you have decided to take a staycation and you are going to stay around Omaha. What should you do? We have compiled some great local venues for kids, for adults and for the whole family.
Ideas for kids
The following Omaha attractions are great for kids!
The Rose Theater www.rosetheater.org has plays, music and dance for kids of all ages! This summer, the Rose Theater will be showing “The Sound of Music” and also has summer camps for children interested in the arts!
The Omaha Children’s Museum www.ocm.org – which celebrates 35 years in 2011 - provides year-round fun for kids. Summers, however, bring longer hours and new exhibits like Dinosaurs: Dawn of the Ice Age!
Fun for the whole family!
While kids enjoy these local places, they are fun for the whole family!
Lauritzen Gardens www.omahabotanicalgardens.org also provides year round fun for the whole family, but summer brings a special time at the Gardens. Monday and Tuesday nights the Gardens are open until 8 pm for “Garden Twilight” from May until September – enjoy a late stroll in the Gardens!
Hot Shops www.hotshopartcenter.com is great for sharing how art is made with the whole family. Hot Shops is home to over 80 studio artists and you can walk around and watch them work. Classes are also available in everything from blacksmithing to pottery, painting and more!
For Adults
Film Streams www.filmstreams.org offers first run and classic reparatory films all year round, but can add some variety to date night – and something different from what’s at the standard multiplex!
Omaha Jazz & Blues Festival www.omahajazzandblues.com.com on July 8th and 9th can make for a great date night out when you’re on your Staycation. Pack a picnic and listen to some great bands!
If you’re looking for events or exhibits that will be open during your Staycation, don’t forget to go to www.visitomaha.com – the home of the Omaha Convention and Visitors Bureau!
Do you have any plans for a Staycation this year? If so, please share any of your recommendations. We’d love to hear them.
