05.05.2011 / Lauritzen Gardens Offers Free Admission For National Public Gardens Day This Friday!
Lauritzen Gardens celebrates National Public Gardens Day with free admission this Friday along with botanical gardens across the country. This is a great way to kick off the spring season.
National Public Gardens Day (NPGD) is an annual celebration of the nation's public gardens to raise awareness of the important role botanical gardens and arboreta play in promoting environmental stewardship, plant and water conservation, green spaces and education in communities nationwide.
NPGD will not only allow visitors to view the beautiful gardens, but they can also learn from staff about the extensive opportunities at the garden from volunteering and classes to special events and supporting the garden. The day will also offer a unique chance for visitors to view the garden's summer-long exhibit titled Outside Kaneko by internationally renowned local artist Jun Kaneko. As his largest exhibit to date, Outside Kaneko is a must see this summer.
Visitors are welcome to walk the garden's 100-acre site, or tram rides will be available for $3 per person.
Lauritzen Gardens is an urban oasis of beauty and tranquility. This 100-acre botanical garden, comprised of several outdoor garden areas, creates a living museum of unique four-season plant displays, maintained to the highest standards consistent with environmental stewardship. The visitor and education center includes the 5,000-square-foot floral display hall, a café, gift shop, resource library, classrooms, banquet areas, and a community room.
